Starting with a map, and guidelines.
Draw the map on black board, and then silver leafing the areas of water.
Coloring the different zones of desert and jungle and savannah with colored pencil.
Laying out the warp images, cut from 1920s elementary geography textbooks.
No strip goes the full length of the picture, they start and stop, and shift.
The warp is done.
Weaving the weft in from the sides, and then finishing the edges.
